2019 elections; The fate of Zamfara Deputy governor, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala.

By SANUSI MUHAMMAD, GUSAU

As 2019 general elections is drawing closer Nationwide, in Zamfara state indication shown that the incumbent deputy governor Malam. Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad may likely be the All Progressive Congress, APC Govrnatorial aspirant to succeed his predecessor Governor Abdulaziz Yari next general election if given the mandate.

Malam Wakkala who became the deputy governor of Abdulaziz Yari since 2011 to date has been described as the most loyalist deputy governor who worked with his boss peacefully without witnessing any uprising between his office and that of his boss among the whole 36 states deputy governors of the federation which is a clear indication that his party APC may likely endorse him to be its candidate unopposed come 2019 elections.

Though, the APC state chairman Alh. Lawal Abubakar recently warned that, the party at state level canceled any form of campaign or expressing interest to vie any position among members of the party until when the national body of the party give an approval to do so, this was not unconnected with the state party preparation to fjiinally nominate the state deputy governor Ibrahim Wakkala to be its candidate unopposed.

Finding gathered that the rumors making the round in the state shows that, so far about four people were expressed their interest beside Zamfara deputy governor Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, under the same ANPP to vie for governorship come 2019 in Zamfara state which includes, Hon. Aminu Sanin Jaji a member represented Birnin Magaji , Kaura Namoda federal house of representatives, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa represented Zamfara central senatorial district, Alh. Muttaka Rini, a commissioner for local governments and chieftaincy affairs.

Malam Wakkala who is currently serving as finance and general purpose chairman in the government of Abdulaziz Yari as well as peace reconciliation committee chairman between the state government and group of armed bandits who terrorised the state from 2012 to date also served in various committee during his stewardship as deputy governor of zamfara for the development of the state in general.

Many zamfarawas believed that during the Wakkala peace dialogue committee assignment given to him by governor Yari early this year, a relative peace has been restored without witnessing any attacks by the group of suspected cattle rustlers to innocent communities in the state.

Recently, governor Yari announced that more than 300 people have been killed to cattle rustlers and other armed bandits nefarious activities between 2014-2015 in the state while commending his deputy’s peace dialogue committee for their tremendous efforts towards ensuring successful peace reconciliation between the state government and armed bandits through which over 1000 armed bandits have surrendered their ammunition to state government.

Majority of zamfara people are on the believe that it is only Malam Wakkala deserved the position to contest for governorship in Zamfara state under the platform of All Progressive Party APC in the forthcoming 2019 general elections considering his tremendous contributions to the propagation of Sharia legal system, Islam, politics and his closeness to former governor Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura who is also believed to be the gladiator of zamfara politics since 2019 to date.

Similarly, Senator Yarima became the first civilian governor of zamfara state from 1999 to 2007 and handed over to his deputy Alh. Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi under the platform of All Nigeria Peoples Party ANPP, who later dumped the party and joined the peoples Democratic Party PDP one year after he assumed office as governor of the state.

Senator Yarima in 2007 when he handed over to his deputy Shinkafi, was elected as Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District comprising Anka, Bakura, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maradun and Talata Mafara local councils in the state from 2007 to date, a situation which made him a political gladiator of APC in the state.

History will repeat itself that, after decamping of Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi to PDP in 2008, ANPP suffered from the hands of PDP ruling party in the state for over two years in which Yarima and his loyalists remain silent until toward the end of 2010 when Senator Yarima brought and nominated Abdul Aziz Yari who was then member represented Mafara Anka federal constituency at federal house of representatitives from 2007 to 2011 as ANPP gubernatorial aspirant with Ibrahim Wakkala as his running mate in the 2011 general election.

After the 2011 election, ANPP retained its power and win the governorship election in which the then incumbent governor Alh. Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi conceded defeat with immediate effect and Abdulaziz YARI became the elected governor two term between 2011 to 2015 general elections respectively.

With this development, majority of people in the state were believed that, if Malam Wakkala become the governor come 2019, it could be a democratic governance of continuity as a lot of ongoing projects awarded by governor Yari from 2018 to 2019 will be completed instead of living them abandoned.
